British Standard Pipe Thread (BSP)

British Standard Pipe Thread is an imperial based system that is a recognised part of the British metric system; a necessary compromise in view of its wide use prior to metrication.

Thread sizes are given in inches, but, unlike many other threads, this does not refer to the diameter of the thread. It is, instead, the nominal internal diameter of the pipe. The thread diameter is set by the size of wrought or cast iron pipe that originally had that bore. The table below shows the actual outside diameter of common threads used in Norscreen products:
