Warning Pipe Screen

Part Number WP075-023M

Warning Pipe Kit Picture

This screen kit is intended to prevent insects from entering a stored water system through the warning pipe. The set comprises a tank connector with a ¾ inch BSP thread, supplied with EPDM washers, an internal dip pipe and the screen unit. It is suitable both for a combined warning and overflow pipe in a small cistern and for a separate warning pipe on a larger cistern.

Kit Contents

Illustration of components of the warning pipe kit

1 x Warning pipe screened unit with screw cap
1 x ¾” BSP tank connector
2 x flexible washer
1 x ¾” BSP nut
1 x Dip pipe

The kit is easily fitted by following the instructions below, which should be read in conjunction with the illustrations.

  1. Drill a hole in the tank wall at a position such that it is at least 25mm above the normal full water level, but also so that the dip pipe is below the surface of the water when the cistern is full. The hole should be large enough to accommodate a ¾” BSP thread, which is 11/16” (27mm) in diameter.

  2. Fit the tank connector through the hole from outside, placing a flexible washer on the either side of the tank wall, and secure with the nut provided. Do not overtighten. As supplied, the connector will provide an unhampered fitting through a maximum of 75mm of insulation. There is no need to reduce the length for thinner insulation, but it may be desirable to do so if space is restricted. To assist with reducing the length, there are cutting marks on the connector at 25mm and 50mm from the end.
  3. Push fit the dip pipe into the tank connector, from the inside of the cistern, as shown.
  4. If the ¾” BSP thread on the screen unit is to be used to connect the warning pipe, cut off the plain section of the outlet below the thread. This will prevent it from being possible to push fit 23mm OD pipe into the outlet.
  5. Push fit the warning pipe screened unit over the end of the tank connector, until it is firmly in place against the stop.
  6. If the ¾” BSP thread is not being used as a connector, ensure that the end of the warning pipe is properly deburred, then push it into the outlet of the screen unit until the end is against the stop and the pipe is firmly held. The hole is stepped to fit 23mm OD plastic pipe in the first section or 22mm OD copper pipe in the second.

The stainless steel screen should be inspected and cleaned periodically and replaced if necessary.

Access to the screen in the lid is by removing the screwed cap, then removing the screen by means of the lifting tab provided. Replace the screen, with the lifting tab uppermost and ensure that it lies evenly on the ledge inside the body. Refit the cap.

Replacement screens are available from your local distributor or direct from us.

Note: The screen is manufactured from stainless steel mesh and may have sharp edges. It is recommended that gloves are used for protection when handling the screen.
